817026C9-CCA3-460C-B2B5-31CCE6D662ECToday I’d like to introduce fellow CIR author, Donna K. Weaver. She’s an award-winning author, wife, mother, grandmother, Harry Potter geek, Army veteran, karate black belt, and online gamer girl. Tell us about yourself, Donna.

My first book was an adventure romance about a girl who goes on a cruise and ends up shipwrecked after a modern-day pirate attack. It began the Safe Harbors series. These are books that can stand alone but are more rewarding if they’re read in order. For book #3, Swing Vote, which came out last October, I drew on a lot of my experience as an election official. For my Victorian Time Travel that came out in February, I made a trip to England and Scotland last year. For book #4, Kings Crossed Lovers that came out last week, I visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

I write clean romance (though not always squeaky clean–a couple of books have a few mild swears, no F-bombs. Most have no swearing at all. I write adventure romance and romantic suspense, so there’s sometimes some violence but I try to describe less and get it over quick). This is why I prefer clean to sweet. One book deals with sexual abuse to a teen (in the past) and the resulting misbehavior of the character. Once again, I was discrete, and it’s a redemption story. The bigger the mistakes, the harder the journey. I think InD’Tale Magazine gave it 2 steam kettles.

Awesome, Donna.  Now, you’ve got a new release out, and it’s on special!  But before we get to that, let’s have three questions. First, who are your favourite authors?

*Anne McCaffrey – she was such an amazing writer and had a gift for language. She created so many entertaining worlds that totally captured my imagination
* Sarah M. Eden – I can always count on a read where my heart is engaged and I can laugh.
* Brandon Sanderson – the man is amazing with the magic systems he can create. I’m not much into reading long fight scenes, but his could be in a movie.

A great line-up indeed. Now, next question, do you write from your own experiences, or do you simply sit down and make stuff up?

Of course I make stuff up. But I also draw on my experiences, those of people I know, or things I read about in the news. Those are merely the starting points and trigger the imagination, that whole “what if” series of questions that lead to what happens.

I’m sure it’s the same for most of us, but if we don’t ask we don’t know for sure! And lastly, how much time per week would you spend writing? Or are you a full-time author?

I retired the end of March and I’m now writing full time. I usually work between 8 and 10 hours a day, interspersed with meals and game breaks. My favorite game is League of Legends and I use games as my reward for reaching certain goals.

So it’s not just me!! Awesome. Now, tell us about this new book.

Kings Crossed Lovers is the story of a young woman who has crushed on her brother’s roommate for years–and now she’s going on vacation with him and her brother. She’s only met him “on-line” previously–and now she has the chance to find out if the cyber magic she’s felt with him will translate to real life.

It’s on special at the moment, but only through the end of June, so grab a copy now!

You can find this book, as well as all my others, on my Amazon author page.
